Educational Purpose: This article is published to help readers identify and protect themselves from online scams. We do not promote or endorse any fraudulent activity. If you have been a victim, call 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in.

Key Takeaways

  • The official SSC CGL 2026 answer key and response sheets are released only on ssc.gov.in, never on external blogs, WhatsApp, or Telegram.
  • Scammers circulate fake APK files disguised as answer sheet PDFs to install spyware and compromise UPI apps.
  • Staff Selection Commission never charges objection fees through private UPI handles or personal phone numbers.
  • If you downloaded a malicious file, disconnect your internet immediately, boot into safe mode, uninstall unknown apps, and call 1930.

If you sat for the Combined Graduate Level Tier II exam recently, you're probably refreshing your browser every hour waiting for scores. Fraudsters know this anxiety all too well. Over the past few days, a nasty fake SSC CGL 2026 answer key download link scam has been making the rounds across Telegram groups and WhatsApp exam circles. Scammers are pushing spoofed download links and malicious packages disguised as official response sheets. They want to get into your phone and steal your login details.

Honestly, it's dirty pool.

More than twelve lakh aspirants appeared for the Tier II exam on January 18 and 19, 2026. That's 14,582 Group B and Group C posts up for grabs across central ministries. DEST happened on January 18. The following day was the main test covering Mathematical Abilities, English, Reasoning, General Awareness, and Computer Knowledge. Tension is sky-high right now (annoying, I know, but totally expected). Everyone wants to see their marks before the Staff Selection Commission publishes the official provisional sheet. Don't do it. If you ask me, rushing to tap unverified links is an easy way to lose your money or leak your personal data.

What the fake SSC CGL 2026 answer key download link scam looks like

The scam usually kicks off inside student chat rooms. You're sitting in a Telegram group called SSC CGL 2026 Discussion Forum or Mission CGL Aspirants. Suddenly, an anonymous account drops a message. It claims the shift-wise answer keys and question papers are live, right there with a direct download link.

Sometimes there's an attachment. Other times, it's just a sketchy shortened link disguised under a web address that looks official at first glance.

I looked into three of those links sent in by readers yesterday. Not one connected to a legitimate government server. Two of them sent users straight to phishing pages built to mimic the Staff Selection Commission website. And the third pushed an Android package called SSC_CGL_2026_AnswerKey_AllShifts.apk. It's a trap. That file isn't a PDF document at all; it gives an attacker backdoor access to your phone.

We saw this exact setup during the SSC CGL admit card WhatsApp APK scam earlier this season. Now the scammers just reused that same playbook for the answer key rush.

How fraudsters run this scam step by step

Scammers rely on pure panic. They know students are desperate to find out how they scored, so they build their whole con around speed. It works surprisingly well.

Here's how the scam plays out step by step:

  1. They seed deceptive posts across WhatsApp groups, Telegram study channels, and YouTube comment sections right after the examination ends.
  2. They fabricate urgent captions claiming the commission released the answer key unannounced or that the official server crashed, offering a so-called mirror link.
  3. When you tap the link, it routes you either to an APK download prompt or a clone webpage hosted on cheap commercial domains like ssc-cgl-portal.in or sscgov-login.com.
  4. The fake portal asks for your roll number, registration password, date of birth, and registered mobile number under the guise of fetching your personalized response sheet.
  5. Once you enter those details, the rogue site displays a fake loading wheel and triggers an SMS OTP to your phone.
  6. The site prompts you to submit the OTP to unlock your PDF. In reality, that OTP is for an unauthorized transaction or an Aadhaar authentication session initiated in the background.
  7. For victims who install the APK, malicious background services read incoming SMS codes silently, exfiltrate photos, and siphon funds through compromised payment apps.

Thing is, phone malware doesn't need root access anymore. Not even close. According to advisories from CERT-In, which is the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, these nasty financial trojans just exploit Android accessibility permissions instead. If you ask me, that's what makes them so dangerous. They silently grab your one-time passwords and log keystrokes without ever popping up an alert on your screen.

Warning signs of a fake SSC CGL answer key download link

Spotting a fake portal takes about thirty seconds once you know what to look for. Scammers can clone official logos and colours all day long. But they can't fake real government domains. Ever.

Watch out for these warning signs whenever someone drops an exam link into your inbox:

  • The link doesn't end with the official government domain. The Staff Selection Commission operates exclusively on ssc.gov.in. If you see domains ending in .com, .top, .site, .biz, or free hosting subdomains, it's fake.
  • The shared file has an .apk or .zip extension. Answer sheets are always provided as readable PDF files inside the candidate dashboard, so never download any .apk file sent over chat apps.
  • The webpage demands an advance fee to download your individual response sheet or calculate your cut-off rank.
  • The portal asks you to verify your identity by entering an OTP sent to your phone or scanning a UPI QR code.
  • The message urges you to forward the link to five WhatsApp groups before the download unlocks. Government portals never use chain-messaging tricks.

Look, government portals don't run like pirated movie sites. They're never going to ask you to complete silly tasks or install companion apps just to see a public PDF (which makes sense, actually). If you see that nonsense, run.

The Staff Selection Commission never distributes answer keys, marks sheets, or official notices through WhatsApp groups, cloud drives, or private messaging platforms. Any download link requiring APK installation or payment is fraudulent.

We saw this exact same trick play out in our recent report on the fake RRB Group D answer key PDF download Telegram scam. In my experience, scammers always recycle these shady payloads because thousands of hopeful candidates fall for them every single exam cycle.

Official SSC CGL 2026 answer key download steps to follow safely

So how do you check your score without getting hacked? Simple. You walk straight through the front door.

The Staff Selection Commission ditched its old ssc.nic.in website and moved over to ssc.gov.in. Based on earlier exam cycles, the commission usually puts out provisional answer keys within two or three weeks after Tier II wraps up. When that official notice finally lands, here's what you do:

  1. Open your browser and type the official URL directly into the address bar. Don't click links from chat groups or search engine ads.
  2. Look at the homepage under the Notice Board or the dedicated Answer Key tab.
  3. Click on the notification titled Combined Graduate Level Examination (Tier-II) 2026: Uploading of Tentative Answer Keys along with Candidates' Response Sheet(s).
  4. Read the official PDF notification, which contains the sanctioned login link at the bottom.
  5. Log in using your registered roll number and password as generated during exam registration.
  6. View your recorded answers alongside the tentative correct options directly on your screen and save the PDF to your local storage.

If you spot a genuine mistake in the tentative keys, you'll get an objection window of three to four days to challenge it. Each challenge costs ₹100 per question. And that fee goes directly through the official payment gateway built right into the portal. The commission will never ask you to transfer funds to a private UPI handle or scan a personal QR code (which, I think, is an absolute disgrace that scammers even attempt). Don't fall for it.

We tracked a nearly identical mess in the fake UGC NET 2026 answer key APK scam, where criminals tried collecting bogus objection fees through fake UPI addresses.

What to do if you installed a rogue APK or shared credentials

If you already tapped a bad link or installed that APK, don't panic. Panic doesn't fix anything. Fast action does.

First, switch your phone into flight mode right away. Turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data completely. That cuts the cord between the malware and the scammer's server, which stops data leaks dead in their tracks.

Next, open your phone settings. Go to Apps and scroll through your installed apps list slowly. Look for sketchy apps missing an icon, or names like SSC Update and PDF Viewer (which scammers love using). Tap the app, clear the cache and data, and hit Uninstall. If that button is greyed out, head into Device Admin Apps under Security Settings and revoke its access first.

Once that's done, grab a clean phone or use a family member's laptop to change your net banking passwords and UPI PINs right away. Check your bank statements immediately for tiny unapproved charges. In my experience, these scammers often test the waters with a ₹10 or ₹50 debit before trying to clean out your balance.

Did you type your login details into a fake website? Get on a safe browser immediately, log into the official portal, and change your password.

Where to report exam fraud in India

Reporting fraud matters. It gives authorities a fighting chance to freeze sketchy bank accounts and take down fake servers before more candidates get burned.

If money vanished from your account or digital wallet, minutes matter. Dial the national cybercrime helpline at 1930 right away. The 1930 helpline connects straight to the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System. If you report the theft within that first "golden hour", police can work with recipient banks and payment aggregators to block the funds before the scammer pulls cash at an ATM. Honestly, it's your best shot at getting your money back.

After calling, file a formal complaint online at cybercrime.gov.in. Attach every piece of evidence you have. Upload screenshots of the fake links, the Telegram channel details, transaction reference numbers (UTR numbers), and the APK package if it's still on your phone.

You can also submit the malicious links directly to CERT-In via their incident reporting desk. I don't know why so many people skip this step, but reporting these fake domains is how they get pulled offline for everyone else.
